Tom interviews

Yesterday we met Tom Edward a young man who works for Oxford City Council. Tom organises Street Sports for kids, giving them the opportunity to play sports for free. There are about 500 participants interested in this project that can play several kinds of sports, such as: sailing, canoeing, roller hockey, rock climbing, basketball and so on.
The staff is made up of 25 people. They organise sports activities every week. Also the police support the project. But sometimes Tom disagrees with them because their policy of dispersing groups of youths on the street. There are people from 2 to 64 years old! But they are mainly young people from 8 – 18.
At the moment the project includes only sport activities but Tom hopes to extend their activities to include art and music. Tom is satisfied with these results but he’d like to increase the number of the participants. We like this project, because we think it gives the opportunity to young people to get off the streets. We think it’s important because playing sports young people spend time in a better way than drinking or taking drugs.
